So I think that Goons at some point will have problems recruiting new members, because somehow I do not see the "old" goon players setting up structures that help new players over the entry barriers.
For me it is just a matter of time before we see GOON 2.0 - a new corp that that hates goons and all the other "old boys" just the same and which will be able to recruit the noobs much easier. And lets face it - we need new players in EVE - bot the game and the alliances needs more players all the time to replace older players moving on to other games.

Anyone already in Goonswarm will remain there of course.
I heard if you open a ticket in Solo's new ticketing system you can get a waiver depending on your playtime and activity on the forums. _______________________________________________________________ He who laughs last is usually the one the joke was about. |

Space holding 0.0 alliances? If there are any besides goons, you can probably count them all on one hand. No offense, but teaching newbies how to run missions in empire is a far cry from learning the basic survival skills needed to thrive in 0.0. _______________________________________________________________ He who laughs last is usually the one the joke was about. |

No they don't.
Yeah, they do. It isn't difficult at all to get into 90% of territory holding alliances (certainly the large ones) with a few months old character if you can somehow show you've an interest in pvp and learning to pvp.
Just posting a few piracy attempt killmails to a public killboard, and a nicely written eve mail is normally enough.
Most non a**hole corps will offer plenty of advice on fittings and general play tips in corp chat and on corp forums.
There's also tons of corps who specifically cater, recruit or go out their way to teach newbies.
Have you ever actually been in alliance besides Goonswarm?
Have you ever been in an alliance at all? How about a corp? Hard to tell when you are not showing your corp/alliance.
He's proving that he's a newbie and doesn't know what the **** when it comes to forum settings, duh. _______________________________________________________________ He who laughs last is usually the one the joke was about. |

Originally by: Vile rat I actually remember my first day in the game. I remember I was in S-U down in Syndicate in a Punisher being told how to mine crokite and run from rats as they spawned (3 punishers later that is).
I remember being told to form up on the gate because some guys in HAC's were on the way and I remember they were part of Peoples front of judea (I think they were in Phoenix alliance at the time) and when they jumped in we had 50 or so people hanging out at the gate but we only got one of them.
I remember warp scrambling the gate and being yelled at by somebody but having fun. Then one of our own guys blew me up but I got another free frigate and went back to mining crokite. I miss those days :(
The sad part is, once those days are gone you can't get them back. Sure you can reroll another newbie toon, but you'll won't be fitting artillery blasters on your rifters or fitting out ratting Lavens. Ok, maybe the Laven part still works. _______________________________________________________________ He who laughs last is usually the one the joke was about. |

Originally by: Rbel Ion Calm down, I didn't want to break your self important circle jerk about how totally awesome and unique Goonswarm is with newbies.
Most people are pretty happy to play the game for a weeks without being in a corp or alliance FYI (if they even know what corps and alliances are). The fact GS recruits people from SA who have already been informed of the basic premise of EVE and told tales of alliance warfare and want to jump straight into that is irrelevent.
Goonswarm might be the only alliance that goes out of it's way to have so much infrastructure to teach newbies (for it's own ends...), but if you ever actually join a semi-decent corp & alliance outside of Goonswarm you will find the majority of people playing the game love helping new players and are all too willing to provide advice. Most alliances are not impermeable for newbies.
The point is: the self-aggrandizing propaganda you guys spew about some bizzare attitude that apparantly the majority of people who play this space interner video game have some kind of conspiracy hatred of newbies and want to stop them playing the game is comedy.
There are huge entire alliances out there full of new players. IAC, FREGE, BRUCE, EVE-U, all sorts of drone region alliances (who hilariously are apparantly you're next target after BoB, way to go helping the newbs :D), all sorts of small northern nap monkey alliances.
So in summary: Yes Goonswarm for their own purposes are very good at teaching people from their $10 forum posting community how to play eve. But EVE as a whole is full of newbie friendly or composed entities, often occupying 0.0 space. And like I said, it is not diffucult at all, if you've been playing for even a little while to get into seasoned, mid-tier alliances.

tl;dr
CAOD was ruined long before the restrictions on goons posting here were lifted. At least now, a large number of people who took themselves entirely too seriously have come around or stopped posting altogether. I enjoy the new CAOD, it's not nearly the cesspool of bitterness and spite it was a year ago. _______________________________________________________________ He who laughs last is usually the one the joke was about. |

They prefer to ridicule themselves before anyone else can ridicule them. They hide behind sarcasm. Also, every single one of them posting here would be banned for live on SA.com by now for posting worthless stuff, one liners and forum ******y. they are everything the SA community despises and pick upon.
But sadly, they just don't give a damn. We best get used to them and the degradation of the EvE community into a pre puberty, annoying, repetive, stupid pile of ****. Fun, isn't it?

Anyway, I think all these goon-generalizations can only fail. What we see are a few thousand people that have some common background and want to play this game together as a group and have fun and/or win. I mean, it's nothing new: There are corps that started originally with members of their old gaming clans from other games or corps that come mostly from one country ... all that is normal and common in other games, too. Basically it's the same like with the Goons. The only real difference is imho that Goons are so many and play an important role. 5000 people, who feel united and stick together, can develop some impressive group dynamics, not to mention that 5000 people usually make more noise than 50.
If someone thinks that I have suddenly become pro-goon, no still prefer them red. I just keep those things in mind now, when I read goon posts now and don't take them too seriously. You can't really win against 'The Goons' on CAOD. Once you trigger their solidarity by replying to a particular Goon post in a generalizing offending way, their support roles in.
I'd say bottomline is imho that you better look at a Goon as an individal playing the game together in his corp/alliance/community instead of generalizing. There is a fundamental difference between the Goons and the Borg. Goons come as individuals in different flavour and can be anything from reasonably, funny, ironic to plain annoying and do transitions with those states from one post to another.
You're pretty cool, you can blow up our newbies in SP if you want. _______________________________________________________________ He who laughs last is usually the one the joke was about. |

Originally by: Easy Kill I am a Goon -- a director, no less (specifically, for Ultrapolite Socialites, a corp in Goonswarm)-- about to give everyone an insider's take on:
1) life in 0.0 space; 2) the ongoing war in the South; 3) the BoB/devs/GMs "scandal"; and 4) the recent Goonswarm threadnaught against CCP that resulted in such a flurry of postings, accusations, arguments, name-calling, and all around traumas (see here and here and here).
I am posting in "General Discussion" for the benefit of everyone interested in such matters, especially empire pilots who may want to know a bit more about what it's like to live in 0.0 space as part of a large power block alliance. I am also posting this thread as a kind of cathartic purge, a way of putting behind me what has been a very long year and a half, and hopefully, move on to new adventures in Eve.
Allow me to begin by revealing the fact that I will not be in Goonswarm much longer. My roles have been deleted, my CEO has been notified, and my belongings are safe in empire. Let me further say that at this point that I am actually one of the more impartial/neutral, although by know means most knowledgeable, observers when it comes to the aforementioned issues. Why is that? There are a few reasons:
1. I have fought on both sides of this current war within a relatively short timeframe; 2. I have been in each of my alliances for such short periods of time that my loyalty/allegience has not grown so intense as to cloud my objectivity; 3. I have always prided myself on being as fair as possible -- i.e., I try hard to see where others are coming from.
